Fall is all apons

September is nearly over and things are really underway here at Tunk and Lead.  We have been cutting kits, prototyping new ones, and getting ready for our first show of the Fall.  We are going to throw out some teasers of what you will see coming from us soon.  We don't want to give away too much; though in the shameless promotion department, head to our Ebay site and you'll see a couple of them.

September is here

Weekly updates;  OH WELL missed that.

Its been nothing short of a super busy summer and hot to boot.  Some items and tasks on the home front demanded a large precentage of my free time.  Now that fall is finally rolling into view and we are about a month out from the PA show, things have jumped into high gear.

For us what is so exciting about attending the Finescale Model Expo is the level of vendors and patrons.  We have heard many great things about the previous show(s) and we decided this is where we want to be.  Again I know its a lot of fluff to say something like that but the model train world is a funny place.  It has some weird ups and downs.  The model expo will be the best possible sounding board for us to determine in which direction we will take this little operation.

I did promise some pictures and hints of things to come and I do not plan on letting some folks down.  The red clearance gauge is the recent version of the already popular clear version we have been selling on Ebay. Check it out on Ebay and get it now.

Below is the picture of something you won't see for sale (maybe we'll see); this shack is a composition of two of our speeder sheds chopped and married with a crossing shack front to make a special cover building.  There is more detail to be added but this is the start.  We just want to add that our kits don't bind the buyer down to making what is on the package.  We encourage kitbashing and we aim to prove it with all of our kits.

Moving Things Forward Now

T n L is making our first steps possible to enter the broader world of scale modeling.  It's kinda difficult to come up with the exact words or title to describe our company and its work; so scale modeling is what we will stick with for now.

Good news we are making strides to getting our products to the 2012 Fine Scale Model Railroader Expo .  Details are in the link, this will be our first big show of 2012.  Very exciting to be able to make it to a venue such as this.

In release of this information we will be dropping hints and pictures of our newest products and display concepts.  Please keep checking in for developments and updates...I promise to update at least once a week.

Thanks!

Yes, The only place they can be found now other than modelers' layouts is on the dusty shelves of some distributors.

To and from Springfield (the Big "E")

Last Saturday was my first ever introduction in the Springfield model train show.  As many have described the show to me as model train overload.  Indeed the show was without a doubt an overload.  There were the best of the best in all manner of vendors...and some not so much.

However going to the show was a worth while experience; while there I learned that there something to meeting many of the other vendors and clients of ours. Being there helps to cement bonds between us and those that we have or will worked with.  The trip also allowed us to get our hands on some new materials and sources for materials.  Some of these things will most certainly help use with some of the super details a few of our kits might be lacking.

Last and the most important thing about the show was learning how the world of kitbashing is not really at the fore front of the model railroad industry.  Time to 'bash is fleeting and many have become collectors.  I really don't think its for a lack of personal talent, I believe many just don't have the time.  Please correct me if I'm wrong here...

In the long run; going to a big show every so often should be on the list to do for anyone who is kitbasher.  I know there were somethings I may have never found if I hadn't taken the time to travel to Springfield and duke it out with the masses.

There will be more to come as time develops and we get a chance to test some new things out...for now remember kitbashing is not a crime...

Chop shop galore & thumb bloggn'

Just delivered the Sea Port Modelworks display system. I say display system not case because of all the extra functional engineering.  There will be more in the way pictures and details coming soon...I promise.

In the mean time like any 'basher I've got several or more irons in the fire for bash jobs.  I'm working on my first HOn30 modern logging layout. I've attached some pics of the concept locos.  I think I have really bitten off more than I can chew...we'll see though.

The orange thing is matchbox/hotwheels snow-cat that will be a little crew shuttle.  The big 44+ tonner will be the workhorse loco.  I have some logging equipment too that will be bashed.

I would love to hear or see anyone's ideas thoughts...so please chime in.  That's all for now its cold in the shop going back inside.
