Last Saturday was my first ever introduction in the Springfield model train show. As many have described the show to me as model train overload. Indeed the show was without a doubt an overload. There were the best of the best in all manner of vendors...and some not so much.
However going to the show was a worth while experience; while there I learned that there something to meeting many of the other vendors and clients of ours. Being there helps to cement bonds between us and those that we have or will worked with. The trip also allowed us to get our hands on some new materials and sources for materials. Some of these things will most certainly help use with some of the super details a few of our kits might be lacking.
Last and the most important thing about the show was learning how the world of kitbashing is not really at the fore front of the model railroad industry. Time to 'bash is fleeting and many have become collectors. I really don't think its for a lack of personal talent, I believe many just don't have the time. Please correct me if I'm wrong here...
In the long run; going to a big show every so often should be on the list to do for anyone who is kitbasher. I know there were somethings I may have never found if I hadn't taken the time to travel to Springfield and duke it out with the masses.
There will be more to come as time develops and we get a chance to test some new things out...for now remember kitbashing is not a crime...
